Do you wish you were younger?
I spent the morning getting flowers for the porch. I spent the afternoon on a long walk with a brilliant woman. I’m feeling happy. My husband reminds me of something he found funny that I said early in our relationship, “Spring is one of my favourite seasons.”
I’m genuinely Canadian. I can’t imagine living somehwere without weather changes or living without the rhythms of the seasons. Enough talk about the weather (another Canadian pastime.)
This week I was hanging out at the park with my three-year-old granddaughter. We were having a great time, and she looked at me and said, “I don’t want to grow up.”
A few days later, my daughter sent me a text that read, “I could handle being three years old for a day.”
I’ve always loved three-year-olds. They are so unedited and fun to be around. I can see the appeal of that age.
Of course, beneath these comments is the question, “Why?”
I can appreciate my daughter’s desire to have less responsibility and have someone do everything for her for a day (she is a homeschooling mom with three kids under 9). I wonder what Clover was thinking when she made her comment. I hope it came from gratitude for the beautiful day she was having and not from a fear of ageing.
A friend and I were texting today. She’s been going through some health challenges, and we were catching up about an appointment with a specialist. She wrote, “The sage-ing of the body is a little trickier than that of the mind/spirit.”
One of the great things about doing the psycho-spiritual work of ageing is the shift from doing to being. We move into a place where we are more interested in what nourishes our souls and the quality of our life.
Awaken the Sage is seven hours of content that introduces you to the wisdom path of conscious Eldering. I will run a few workshops in the fall - details to follow.
I would also be happy to bring this material to you. Let me know if you have a group of 5-10 women who would like to explore Sage-ing's core concepts together. I would be happy to provide details to help you decide.
Ageing doesn’t need to be feared. Facing your questions, reviewing your life, repairing any areas to bring closure and healing, forgiveness work, facing mortality and thinking about your legacy can get you into a place of greater aliveness.
You’ll be wondering what all the buzz is about being three again.
