Summer 2023 Reading List

We are halfway through summer this week. I’ve just returned from three weeks’ vacation. Here’s a list of what I have read, am currently reading and have on my to-be-read pile. Please read my previous post before you buy any of these books! Please let me know what you are reading. You can email me here.

Note: This post will be updated as I read more books.

Fiction books

  1. The Love Song of Queenie Hennessey by Rachel Joyce

    Status: Read

About: I didn’t realize that The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Frye was the first book in a trilogy! When I discovered the author had written two more books, I checked them out of the library and took them to the cottage. I loved this book. It reminded me of my work with people in Awakening the Sage Within. Life Review, Life Repair and Forgiveness are essential to integrating our life experiences. Queenie does all of that in this beautiful story.

  2. Maureen: A Harold Fry Novel

    Status: Read

This book was just released in 2023. Queenie’s story made me a little teary. I ugly cried reading about Maureen. What a woman. Life is difficult, and we are all products of our environment and the choices we make in response to the pain in our lives. Maureen is stuck in her pain.

  3. Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson

    Status: Read

A friend highly recommended this book. It is the story of a dysfunctional wealthy family. It’s a good read and a reminder that money doesn’t buy happiness. My daughter also read it, and we are now very much into joking about ‘tablescapes.’

  4. The Apothecary’s Garden by Jeanette Lynes

    Status: Reading

This book is set in Victorian Ontario, Canada. I will update this when I finish it!

Non-fiction books

  1. Right Place Right Time by Ryan Frederick

    Status: Reading and Making Notes

I mentioned in an earlier blog post that my husband and I are considering making a move in the next year. We want a house we can age well in, and I don’t want to move when I am 70. I heard Ryan Frederick interviewed and immediately ordered this book. It has exceeded my expectations. Brian and I are reading it this summer and using it as a guide to help us in our decision-making process. I highly recommend it.

  2. Still Life at Eighty by Abigal Thomas

    Status: Read

I enjoyed this book written during the pandemic by eighty-year-old Thomas.

  3. Jesintel: Living Wisdom from Coast Salish Elders

    Status: Reading

Jesintel means “to learn and grow together.” It describes exactly what I want from this book. I am enjoying reading the perspectives of each elder that was interviewed. It’s not a book I would read in one sitting but more the type of book I will keep close by and pick up as an alternative to scrolling through Instagram.
