Day 37: The Rush of Autumn

Lately, I have been seeing autumn as a metaphor for this stage of life. It’s so busy. It’s so full. There is so much to do and prepare for winter. As the weeks go by and we head into November, there is an urgency to get things done.

Yesterday, I washed off the back deck and finished putting the rest of the patio furniture in the garage. It was a beautiful day, and although I would rather be writing, I knew I needed to seize the moment and get it done while the weather was good.

I felt the same way recently when I took one of my granddaughters to the beach for a final hurrah. She was brave enough to go swimming. I was happy to soak up the sun from a blanket on the beach. I did manage to go up to my knees before the cold water started to numb my feet.

There is so much to do. So much to experience. So much to prepare. So much to organize. So much preparation for winter. Any day now, the first flurries will be in the air. I hope I’m ready.
