Day 34: Gratitude is never too late.
I originally planned to write sixty-eight microblog posts leading up to my 68th birthday. A daily post seemed quite manageable when I began, but here I am, now hoping I’ll have this project completed by the end of November. It is still my birthday month, so there’s that small consolation.
It has made me think about how busy I am and how easily this “little project” has gone off the rails. My life is full, and clearly I must like it that way because I continue to fill it with all kinds of things.
Yesterday was Thanksgiving. I want to pause here and acknowledge how grateful I am that my life is busy. Here are a few things I am thankful for, one day late. But gratitude is never late.
I am grateful that my mother is still alive and that my weekly rhythm includes visiting her.
I am grateful for my grandchildren and that I get to see them as often as I do. It is a joy.
I am grateful for a home to take care of, even if that means all the upkeep and cleaning.
I am grateful for my work. I am grateful that I can write and share my thoughts on aging.
I am grateful for my body and for being able to work out most days, whether that means a walk or a fitness routine.
My life is rich. If I miss the odd day of writing and get behind on this self-imposed deadline, so be it.
I’m grateful for all of it.
