Day 28: The Cornell 7

Yesterday, I started seeing stories in my Instagram feed about the Cornell 7.

I went down the rabbit hole, reading women sharing their own experiences with men. It was a lot. So much so that at 4:30 a.m., I woke up and immediately started thinking about my own experiences as a young woman. I’m not about to write an essay here; I’ve shared my #MeToo story in the past.

Today, I decided to step away from social media after I briefly opened my feed and discovered the algorithm had flooded it with so many young women processing their grief, anger and sadness. After ten minutes, I was sitting on my couch in tears.

Somehow, I thought by now young women would be safer. I thought young men would make better choices. I didn’t think they would still be dealing with this shit.

After I cried, I started thinking: what can I do as an older woman to help?

I’m not sure.

I’m here. I’m listening.

I’m hoping when Jane Doe is 68, she’ll see how her courage has made this a safer place for other women.
