Day 2: What I’m Reading
This week, I started reading a book I had been given for my 67th birthday. It has been sitting in my TBR pile, but recently I decided to prioritize the books I have on hand, or at least find a balance between the pile and the constant flow of books on hold coming in at the library.
I reached for Walking with Beth: Conversations with My 100 Year Old Friend by Merilyn Simonds, and I have fallen in love with both of these women. This memoir begins in 2021 during the pandemic, when Merilyn and Beth begin walking weekly. They walk for three years, sharing the stories of their lives that became this book.
I have already quoted the book twice in conversation. I resonate with the topics they discuss. In a discussion on longevity, lifestyle choices arise, but never in a way that suggests, “Do what I do and you too will live to be an active and healthy centenarian.”
Another idea I raised at a family dinner yesterday was the topic of peak creativity and age. My 38-year-old daughter has already asked to borrow this book.

Note: I would always prefer you purchase books from an independent book store or library. The link above it an Amazon affiliate link. Just another way I live with cognitive dissonance.
