Day 38: You Can See Everything
This post isn’t about the Elizabeth Holmes documentary, but I did watch it yesterday. It was as thought-provoking as everyone claims. I’m still thinking about it. I wonder if it prompted my nightmare last night. I’ll spare you the details, but I did wake up shouting a warning at someone.
Mostly, I’ve been thinking about what kind of people invite someone into their home to document so much of their lives in the weeks before one of them will be imprisoned, and they will be separated for years. Would I choose to spend my last few weeks with my three-month-old and two-year-old, rehashing the circumstances leading up to the conviction?
What would I do?
I wonder if, for a generation used to sharing every insignificant detail of their lives, from the coffee they’re drinking to the details of their plastic surgery, this doesn’t seem like such a big deal. I prefer to keep large parts of my life private. I don’t need to document every tear I’ve shed, every fun moment with friends, or every picture of my pet.
Sure, you can see everything about people’s lives online. But do you want to?
