Day 12: Packing Up Summer

Yesterday, I drove to the beach to spend the day with my grandkids. They are camping at a provincial park two hours away. It was a good drive. I left at 7 am so I could sneak in an hour at a bird observatory near them.

It was a beautiful day. I had queued some fascinating podcasts to listen to that inspired me. I swam and played in the water with my youngest granddaughter. I played Dutch Blitz with the older kids (including my 26-year-old step-granddaughter who took great pleasure in winning).

At the end of the day, I was aware that I needed to pack up my sun shelter carefully and empty all the sand. It’s the end of the season, and I don’t think I’ll be using it before next summer.

As I get older, time goes by quicker, but embedded in packing up a season is the recognition that time is passing. It is bittersweet. And it is why I went hard yesterday and feel it in my body today. I have so much gratitude for yesterday. This post feels more like a journal. No incredible insight here, just a simple recognition that time is passing. I am not taking anything for granted.

Side note: Is there anything more fun than watching plovers on the beach?
